Two Big Website Challenges in 2021
On 3rd September 2021 | 35 Comments | business coach, website design |

1. Cybersecurity

Many businesses find keeping their sites secure as a big challenge. Hackers and web criminals are getting smarter. Keeping the software on our servers up to date is very important.

Having a team to monitor the security of your site can be beneficial. Once there is any kind of unusual activity they can instantly act and protect the website.

DDOS attacks are becoming more common, as are brute force attacks. Brute force attacks are one of the most common ways to hack. Here are some things you can do to limit your vulnerability to a brute force attack.

  1. Use complex passwords which only you or people that you trust have access to. Use a meaningless password which has letters, symbols and numbers combined.
  2. Use two-factor authentication to log into your apps.
  3. Ensure you have the latest version of your site and it is up to date.
  4. Install a malware scanner. This will alert you in case of a breach so you can act quickly.

2. Handling Site Growth

With the internet, it’s a challenge to know when your site may become popular and start getting an increase in traffic.

To handle site growth, begin by monitoring your sites normal growth. There are some indications that your site is growing. These include slow loading pages and errors on your website.

  1. Optimize your site. Have a website developer look at your code, plugins, database queries and structure. They will be able to suggest improvements. Starting with removing old plugins, activating cache and re-writing some of the code can help. These can also help with the long- term health of your website. We can help with this, find out more here.
  2. Once you have optimised everything, you may consider upgrading your hosting platform. Moving from a shared hosting to a cloud can help to remove any more issues that you may experience.
